This spring, advocates across the nation rallied together to speak up for the 40 million people trapped in slavery (Global Slavery Index, 2018). As a movement, thousands of you leveraged the power of digital tools to raise your voices to your members of Congress through tweets, emails and online petitions. Together, we urged Congress to ensure that the State Department’s Program to End Modern Slavery and the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Office are fully funded in the 2020 appropriations bill. Here is a breakdown of the momentum you’ve built:

That is why I hope you will join us for IJM's 4th annual Advocacy Workshop and Lobby Day on April 15-16, 2012, in Washington, D.C. You'll get equipped to mobilize your home state to fight trafficking in your own community and worldwide, and you will learn about IJM's plans to strengthen U.S. government laws.
Annick Febrey, IJM's Legislative Affairs Manager, and I had the honor of meeting with Samantha Power, Special Assistant to President Obama on Human Rights and Multilateral Affairs and her deputy, Rob Berschinski, on Wednesday, February 22. We proudly presented a letter with more than 29,000 signatures, asking the President to take the lead in ending modern-day slavery at home and abroad.
Weve hit our goal of 27,000 signatures but YOUR name can still stand for freedom. Lets make an unforgettable statement by blowing this goal out of the water! Well continue adding voices calling for an end to slavery all the way up to our meeting with the Obama Administration.
