IJM Day in Music City

Tuesday afternoon, I was on the steps of Nashville’s City Hall, with a great gathering of students and musicians, celebrating Music City’s resolution to be a leader in the fight against slavery and violent oppression.

Bright Company

I had the pleasure of meeting several of the students at the rally and was so impressed by their ideas, drive, and commitment to the cause of ending violent oppression. It was inspiring to see this group of people who care deeply about what is happening to their fellow human beings and are so ready and willing to act on their behalf.

700 Voices

Gary Haugen received the official resolution from Nashville’s City Council, and IJM was presented with over 700 signed postcard petitions that the students had collected, asking Senator Corker to sign on as a co-sponsor to legislation that will support anti-human trafficking efforts around the world. The postcards, representing the voices of over 700 of his constituents, will be delivered by IJM to the Senator’s office in Washington.

My Story | Your Story

“One day, slavery will be in the dustbin. That WILL happen. That’s not the question,” Gary said, speaking at the rally.  What he did ask all of us was, “What will your story be?” When slavery is finally a thing of the past, what part will I have played in putting it there? What will my story be? What will yours be?

The young women and men at Tuesday’s rally have played a part in the movement to end slavery, and we’re excited to see where they go from here.
