Last Thursday, the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 12-6!

We are excited that this critical legislation will now move forward for a full Senate vote, but there’s still more work to be done. Senators Coburn (OK), Cornyn (TX), Lee (UT), Sessions (AL), Graham (SC), and Kyl (AZ) each voted against passing the TVPRA out of committee. It’s critical that these members hear from anti-slavery advocates in their states before the bill is voted on by the full Senate.

How you can help:

If you live in Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Alabama, South Carolina, or Arizona, please call your Senator and politely express your disappointment that they did not support the TVPRA in committee and your hope that they will support the bill when it reaches the Senate floor.

Feel free to use this sample script for your call:

Hi, my name is [NAME], and I’m calling from [city, state]. I’d like to express my disappointment that Senator [NAME] voted against the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (S.1301) in the Senate Judiciary Committee last week. This bill would combat human trafficking in the United States and around the world, and I hope he’ll change his mind and vote in favor of the bill when it comes before the full Senate. Would you pass my message on to the Senator? Thank you!

  • Senator Coburn (OK): 202-224-5754
  • Senator Cornyn (TX): 202-224-2934
  • Senator Lee (UT): 202-224-5444
  • Senator Sessions (AL): 202-224-4124
  • Senator Grahams (SC): 202-224-5972
  • Senator Kyle (AZ): 202-224-4521

If you don’t live in one of those six states, you can still support the TVPRA by making sure your Senators have cosponsored the bill (here’s the list). If they haven’t, call and ask them to sign on and cosponsor this critical legislation. You can use this sample script from National Call-in Day to make your call. If your Senators have cosponsored the bill already, call and thank them for their support!
