Act now to help protect the poor from everyday violence.

FREEDOM FROM OPPRESSION. FREEDOM FROM SLAVERY. FREEDOM FROM VIOLENCE.

Slavery doesn’t just happen overseas. It’s taking place right here in the United States.  The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children estimates that at least 100,000 children are victims of sex trafficking and prostitution each year in the U.S.

Child trafficking is a federal crime, but many states, including Michigan still do not adequately protect children who have been exploited.  In many cases, children who have been rescued from trafficking are treated as criminals.  Without state laws to support our strong federal laws, children will continue to fall through the cracks.

You can be part of the solution. We’re asking you to join us in calling on Michigan lawmakers to pass a comprehensive set of laws that will ensure victims of trafficking in Michigan are protected. This set of laws includes “Safe Harbor” legislation, which recognizes trafficked children as victims of a crime and ensures children receive specialized services to protect them from further harm.

Ask Michigan lawmakers today to help protect child trafficking victims in Michigan by adding your name.

Dear Legislator:

Slavery still exists today. Also called human trafficking, this problem occurs not just overseas, but in all 50 U.S. states as well. Michigan has been a leader in enacting laws to combat these horrific crimes, but more needs to be done. To ensure our state responds adequately to the crime, I urge you to support comprehensive legislation to protect victims of trafficking in our state, including providing services for victims of trafficking and specifically ensuring child trafficking victims are protected.

Victims of human trafficking face horrific abuse and a difficult road to recovery. They are threatened, beaten, raped, starved, locked up or psychologically manipulated—all for the financial profit of their abusers. I urge you as a leader in Michigan to do all you can to combat human trafficking and modern-day slavery in our communities by officially supporting these policies.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

[YOUR NAME]
